Register early for Walk+Bike to School Challenge Month and get FREE INCENTIVES and $200 for your school!
- Free Incentives for the first 250 schools that register
- $200 for the first schools in each district to register
The Walk + Bike Challenge is a fun event with schools across the country participating. Our goal is to get as many kids (and parents and staff!) using active transportation to school.
You can choose to engage in the entire month, one week, or one day. The Spring Walk + Bike day is Wednesday May 4th.
Participation in the Walk+Bike Challenge is easy and fun!
- Register your school
- Designate a School Champion
- Check out the “Resources” page on the Walk + Bike website, especially the coordinator packet for awesome tips, ideas, and resources
- Return to the website during the month of May to track your school’s walking and biking trips!
- Contact your district coordinator for help, support and/or ideas.
Although anyone from your school can register your school, ideally each school will designate a “School Champion” to coordinate the event at your school. School champions are often parent volunteers, PTO members, staff members, and occasionally principals.
You’ll have support from me, your local Safe Routes to School Coordinator as well as the Statewide and National Safe Routes program. You decide how much you want to do; hold a kick-off event, highlight National Bike to School Day on May 4th, do the whole month challenge or just a week or two of it. The important part is to register and participate in some way.
Order FREE Incentives & Apply for a Stipend!
Free incentives – Once you register your school you will be able to order fun and free incentives to encourage participants during the Challenge. You can order a variety of incentives for free OR choose a prepared box with an assortment of incentives (value is around $40). Once you register, you will receive an email with ordering details.
School Stipends – Available to the first schools that register (12 in 4J, 5 in Bethel, & 8 in Springfield)! Funds can be used anyway you’d like to encourage more walking and biking during May. That could be more incentives, prizes, healthy food, or any creative idea to make a great event happen. Email Cody Franz, the Regional SRTS Coordinator to ask for a stipend. He will send you details and get you set up!
Weekly Prize Drawings!
You can track on a weekly basis or for the whole month. Tracking is simple! You can use the material in the Coordinator Packet or make your own poster or card for keeping track of how many students are walking or rolling to school. Then you use the online Activity Tracker to log participant trips. Why track every week? The BTA will hold weekly prize drawings for schools that log trips each week to win extra incentives, gift certificates, and other great prizes. Register your school now and start planning for a fun Walk+Bike Challenge Month in May! Don’t hesitate to contact me for help and support!
Once you register with Walk + Bike, they will automatically register you with the National Safe Routes to School program, and also Fire Up Your Feet. Fire Up Your Feet has even more ways to earn money and incentives for your school for tracking physical activity – several schools in Eugene/Springfield have used this piece to bring in extra money for the PTO!
Your district Safe Routes to School coordinators look forward to working with you and supporting your school in this fun event!
Let the Walking and Rolling begin!
