Springfield Students to Return to Improved Bike Parking

The City of Springfield partnered with Springfield Safe Routes to School to encourage more students to bike to school in the downtown area by installing better bicycle parking next to school buildings along Main St. Three staple racks were installed in front of the A3 Health and Sciences Campus on 4th and A, two were installed at the front entrance of the main A3 building to add to their existing secured student/staff parking, and two were installed on Main St by Gateways High School (see photos below).

City of Springfield Installed 7 Staple Racks at Downtown Springfield Public School Buildings

Our hope is that by providing more bicycle parking along Main St, Springfield residents will choose to visit downtown school buildings and businesses more frequently by bicycle. We expect to see students utilizing the new racks in fall when school is back in session and will work to promote them through Walk+Bike to School Day on Wednesday, October 8th.

We would like to extend a special thanks to the Springfield Traffic Staff for their help and look forward to partnering on more Safe Routes to School projects in the future!
