Why Not Tri?!
The Why Not Tri 1st Annual South Eugene Triathlon will be held on May 29th (Sunday) at Amazon Pool and Park. This great new youth triathlon will include age groups for both girls and boys including 6 & under, 7&8, 9&10, 11&12, 13&14, 15-17. Every kid gets a finishing certificate, swim cap, a goodie bag, and a race event Tee-shirt! This is a very unique “kids friendly” event involving three lifestyle activities in an “off street” environment with distances adjusted to promote a greater participation among school age kids. Parents will be able to view the entire event from the Start and Finish area(s). There will be age group awards and special awards such as the youngest girl and boy per category. Raffled items from local businesses such as a year’s membership to the Downtown Athletic Club will be given to participants present at the awards ceremony.
Proceeds will be going to support Safe Routes to School, adapted cycling (Hilyard Community Center) and a grant toward kid’s fitness to the school with the most participants. There are family discounts and kids 8 and under enter free if registered by May 13th,2011.
This event is being timed by Eclectic edge racing and participants can enter on line at www.eclecticedgeracing.com. There is detailed race information found here including age group distances, course maps, training tips, sponsorship program, event posters, volunteers and packet pick up information. Event applications can also be picked up at the Eugene Running Company, Paul’s Bike Shop (2480 Alder St.) and Multi Sport Advantage on 7th in Eugene. Applications can also be dropped off at these locations or mailed to the Event Director: 1766 W. 25th Avenue, Eugene, Oregon 97405 no later than May 25th,2011.
There will be a pre-event practice on the bike and run courses the week of May 24th-28th from 4-6PM. Those wanting to swim, need to contact the Event Director, Dave McJunkin at 541-221-1480 for special pool rates and available times.
All bikes must be pre-inspected at one of the listed bike shops (see list of shops on line). Please call ahead of time to set up appointment for the free inspection. When the bike passes inspection there will be an event sticker attached to the bicycle. This stcker is required for the race.
Approximately 90 Volunteers are needed as course marshals, monitors, refreshment overseers and to help with the awards presentation. Volunteers are also needed to set up the course, attend the transition area and assist with break down and clean up. Please email the Event Director at firstname.lastname@example.org if you wish to Volunteer.Please leave you name,phone number,email contact and tee shirt size (sm, md, lg, xl) before May 7th,2011.
There will be a mandatory volunteer meeting on May 19th at the Hilyard Community Center froim 6:30-8PM. Pizza and beverages will be served compliments of Track Town Pizza.
