Transit Education

Our transit education program works to demystify riding the bus, help students feel less afraid of the bus, and provide a real mobility option for them The program is currently being taught to 8th graders during their health classes in 4j middle schools.
The goals of the program include:
- The Benefits of using transit
- How to plan a route
- Bus Riding Basics (including using transit card, how to know you are at the right stop, and how to signal when ready to get off the bus.
- Personal safety and strategies to handle challenging situations.
The curriculum is two class sessions: Day one is in the classroom with presented information, routing activities, and discussions. Day two is a short field trip where the class goes on a field trip to ride the bus and practice what they have learned.
The curriculum covers many state standards and is available by contacting Eugene School District 4j coordinators, Sarah Mazze (mazze_s@4j.lane.edu)or Brad Albee (albee_b@4j.lane.edu).
